Things for students to think about and/or discuss

• Would you eat the food products from a genetically altered animal? Discuss why you would, or why you would not.
• How do you feel about altering animals for the benefit of other animals?
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of altering animals for the benefit of the environment?
• Should genetically altered animals such as glofish only be kept in laboratories? What would happen if they were released into the wild? What would you think about people keeping them as pets?
• An eventual outcome of producing disease-resistant livestock could be that people try to alter animals to make them fit their environment. Can you think of any instances where this could encourage people to care for animals less well? To minimise disease and discomfort for the animal, is it best to adapt the environment, or the animal?
