Endangered or threatened animals
The animals in this Value of life group are all endangered or threatened. Students are asked to value them, while learning some facts about the animals themselves and their current status. They are encouraged to think about what criteria we use to value such animals, and what impact human needs and actions might have on them.
The list below shows the animals included in the Engandered or threatened animals group, and their status on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list.
- Stag beetle: threatened
- Peregrine falcon: least concern
- Greater horseshoe bat: least concern, but decreasing
- Bengal tiger: endangered
- Polar bear: vulnerable
- Orang-utan: critically endangered
- White-clawed crayfish: vulnerable
- Beluga whale: near threatened
- Leatherback turtle: critically endangered
